Education work
As a full-time sculptor with extensive teaching experience, David is an
expert
on the human figure and ideally placed to help students to gain a
greater
understanding of figure drawing and to develop their technical and
observational skills.
He has taught evening classes in drawing to all levels - from beginners
to
professional artists. He now works in schools as an artist-in-residence
on
large projects, as well as teaching workshops in sculpture and life
drawing.
Figure Drawing Workshops
David has found that there is often a different dynamic between
students and an
artist in residence than between a class and their regular art teacher.
The
introduction of an outside influence, and someone who makes a living
through
art, often proves hugely inspirational and motivational.
Intense one or
two-day
sessions, where David will work with a group of students and a
professional
model (clothed or unclothed), allow students to improve rapidly,
producing a
large amount of work and immersing themselves in their work in a way
they are
not able to during timetabled lessons.
Drawing in this way
enables
students to focus and learn in a new and exciting way, often resulting
in them
gaining new confidence in their abilities.
